Interview: Author Reice Godfrey

Books that make kids laugh are always a hit, but The Adventures of the Unicorn Poo by Reice Godfrey takes humor to a whole new level—mixing magic, adventure, and just the right amount of silliness. Inspired by his own children’s curiosity and love for all things fun, Godfrey crafted a story that isn’t just about a unicorn—it’s about its glittery, rainbow-colored poo!

Your book takes readers on a magical and humorous adventure. What inspired you to write a story about a unicorn and its glittery, rainbow-colored poo?

I wanted to create a fun story, that was magical and Fun for my kids, but that good also be shared with all others kids around the world, plus be enjoyable for the adults to read as well.

Sonny and Bailee’s quest is full of whimsy and fun. How did you come up with their journey, and do they reflect any real-life inspirations?

Living in Australia, we do a lot of exploring and camping, when ever my kids see different animal poo’s they are fascinated as to what animal they are from and find poo always funny and humorous.

Kids love humor in books! What do you think makes “poo humor” so universally funny for children?

Kids just seem to like saying the word, making the noises related to the word and seems to make kids all over the world laugh.

The book is filled with sensory details—cotton-candy smells, glitter, and rainbows. How important was it for you to engage multiple senses in storytelling?

Very important, every kid relates and reacts differently, so this provides humour to all kids in different sensory way and feeling, whether looking at the pictures, pretending to “sniff sniff ” to smell the poo, bright rainbow colours. Also every page has hidden little animals for the kids to find as they read the book.

If you could bring one element of your book to life—whether it’s the unicorn, the magical poo, or the adventure itself—what would it be and why?

It would have to be that rainbow coloured, cotton candy smelly, glittery poo, just for the laughs and magical components.

Can we expect more magical, laugh-out-loud adventures from you in the future?

Any sequels or new ideas in the works?  Yes indeed new sequels to the book coming soon.
